The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park plans a full schedule for the 2021-22 season, including a memorial concert for the 20th anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks, a mother-son piano program and masterworks by noted Black composers Nathaniel Dett and Joel Thompson.

Dett’s 1932 oratorio “The Ordering of Moses” tells the Biblical story of Moses leading his people to the Promised Land, while Thompson’s “Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,” a 2106 choral composition, quotes the last words of seven unarmed Black men killed by authority figures. Among them is Trayvon Martin, who died in Sanford.

The 87th annual Bach Festival will run Feb. 4-27, 2022, and include a performance by pianist Olga Kern with her son Vladislav Kern, also an award-winning pianist. Olga Kern last visited the festival in 2017.
