The Magnificats
Celebratory Works
The celebratory text of the Magnificat has attracted composers for centuries. Hear settings of this timeless text by the Baroque master J.S. Bach, and his son, classical composer C.P.E. Bach, who grew up to be one of the most influential composers of his generation.
J.C.F. Bach, the ninth son of J.S. Bach and younger brother of C.P.E. Bach, was a prolific composer in his own right. However, much of his music was lost or destroyed during World War II. This Sinfonia was brought to the Americas by Moravian missionaries in the 1700s and was recently rediscovered at the Moravian Music Foundation.
