WINTER PARK, FL November 8, 2006. The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park is pleased to present its 2006 holiday concerts on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at 8pm and Sunday, December 10, 2006, at 2pm. The 2006 program is titled "International Music of the Holiday Season" and will include a wonderful selection of the different styles of Christmas music that our Western culture has created, including, as a fun twist, a musical journey through the twelve days of Christmas.
"Christmas is a holiday celebrated by many around the globe," says John Sinclair, Artistic Director, Bach Festival Society, "and this music will give our audience the opportunity to enjoy Christmas through the eyes of people from other nations."
A whimsical, yet time-honored, addition to this year’s popular program is a musical journey through the twelve days of Christmas, a wonderful study in the different music traditions our Western culture has created, presented by the 160-member choir and orchestra. The music associated with each of the days of this familiar song is orchestrated in a particular style. These styles vary greatly from "A Partridge from 6th- Century Rome" to "Six Geese a-Laying from 18th-Century Austria" to "Twelve Drummers Drumming from 19th-Century United States of America."
"This year’s program includes a very creative way of presenting a beloved traditional piece of music," says Sarah Ravndal, member of the 160-member Bach Festival Choir. "We’re going to have a lot of fun doing it."
The holiday concert is presented in the beautiful Knowles Memorial Chapel on the campus of Rollins College in Winter Park. "The Bach holiday experience is really like no other. You have the opportunity to be welcomed into a truly beautiful and historic chapel and listen to a wonderful orchestra and 160-voice choir sing familiar favorites," says Elizabeth Gwinn, Executive Director, Bach Festival Society. "It’s truly a magical experience."
Tickets are $40, $30, and $20 and can be purchased by phone at 407-646-2182 or online at www.bachfestivalflorida.org.
"In the season of peace in a time when we need peace, hearing music from other countries makes us realize that deep down we really are all the same," says Sinclair.
